The recent renewal of GINZA SIX, without doubt Tokyo‘s most exclusive shopping centre, comes with an alluring new set of boutiques, including an ephemeral retail space of coveted fashion brand The Row. Following the launch of standalone stores at home base New York City, Los Angeles and London, creative directors Ashley and Mary-Kate Olsen picked the highly fashion-discerning Japanese capital to further raise the brand’s profile. The pop-up occupies a sizeable unit on the third floor, and similarly to its previously opened boutiques, it features an understated yet elegant interior design directly extrapolated from the brand’s design codes. Whitewashed walls and ceiling are paired with beige carpeting, creating a discreet canvas for a carefully positioned set of fixtures, props, and last but not least, hand-picked vintage furniture pieces by 20th-century French designers, including chairs by Charlotte Perriand, a daybed by Pierre Jeanneret, and used as striking wall decoration, a large screen by Jean Prouvé, in addition to other pieces used to display the brand’s many trophies. The Row‘s pop-up carries a curated selection of women’s apparel, bags and shoes, including the Ginza sandal in leather and suede, Massimo backpacks, and the Soft Margaux 17 bag in a new material. Mind you, no end date has been set yet for this temporary treasure trove.
