Thai retail and hospitality behemoth Central Group recently unveiled a rather unique store in Bangkok, its very cradle and home base. Mind you, the company now owns a portfolio of luxury hotels, shopping centres and department stores in Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam, Italy, Germany, Switzerland and Denmark. As talked about in a recent post, the company fully revamped the premises of its first store and symbolically baptised it Central The Original Store as an ode to its founders Tiang and Samrit Charithavit and the company’s storied history. Situated on Level 3 is an exhibition space, and obviously, the inaugural show chimes in with an elaborate display. Aptly entitled The Origins of Central Since 1950, explores Central Group‘s humble beginnings in this building as Central Trading Company Limited, and elaborates on the stories of the father-and-son founders and their philosophies and business practices which gave meaning to the company as the heart of a community, enriching society and the economy along the way. As Central Group‘s first store primarily carried foreign books and magazines, the show’s scenography is accordingly constructed with such references (open through Mar 31).
