Simple food usually tastes the best, and the same equation could easily be applied to interior design. So, when you pair the two, do you get the perfect diner? We like to think so. The popular Torta da Vila restaurant in São Paulo‘s leafy Vila Nova Conceição neighbourhood totally fits the bill. The family dining venue has not only been redeveloped and expanded, but also gained a new identity, all created by local design practice Phenomena. Occupying an elongated 138 sqm.(1,485 sq.ft.) space in a remodeled residential structure, the premises are marked by a green and grey colour scheme which differentiates the roofed outdoor patio section from the indoor space. Painting only the bottom half of the pristine white walls creates a bold linearity that conducts the eye across the premises, providing dialog and fluidity between public and private along the way. The two spaces are tied in by architectural elements such as hollow concrete blocks in the façade, a green steel counter, and elongated light fixtures. As said, Torta da Vila is a typical Brazilian family diner, and serves a rotating range of tasty pies, salads and desserts.
