Following the opening of The New York EDITION in 2015, the luxury hotel format concocted by legendary hospitality guru Ian Schrager and Marriott International opens a second property in New York City. The new property, called The Midtown EDITION, is situated just a number of blocks away, and occupies part of 20 Times Square, a newly-built 39-storey structure at the top of the Times Square bowtie. The interior design, created by the award-winning Yabu Pushelberg practice, encompasses the property’s 452 rooms and public spaces, and establishes a new luxury standard for the area. Interestingly, the chosen design codes reference the Morgans Hotel on Madison Avenue, the planet’s very first boutique hotel which he opened in 1984, featuring the late French architect Andrée Putman’s graphic use of neutral colours.

The settings at The Times Square EDITION boasts a palette of black, white and gray, paired with a streamlined use of materials. Lush greenery throughout the interior and on the terraces and patios offer an escape from the hustle and bustle of Midtown Manhattan. The guestrooms and suites are plush yet understated, offering not only all the comfort and amenities for discerning nomads, but also grand views of Times Square and the city’s iconic skyline from floor-to-ceiling windows. For those used to living large, the corner suites offer a matching setting with sofas, deep soaking tubs, and even furnished balconies. Connecting rooms are also available to add a second and third bedroom to the suite. However, topping all pads in the house is 1,300 sq.ft. (121 sqm.) penthouse with all the imaginable bells and whistles. And since The Times Square EDITION is at the city’s epicentre of entertainment, it pitches in with alluring facilities of its own, such as a cozy lobby bar that’s a seamless extension of the sleek lobby, featuring a dramatic design in black.

Perched on the 11th floor is 701West, a 50-seat gourmet restaurant with an outdoor terrace, headed by acclaimed chef John Fraser and serving a set American-style menu with top wines. Then there’s Paradise Club, a night haunt where dining meets jolly debauchery, courtesy of House of Yes and the aforementioned chef. As its name already implies, The Terrace and Outdoor Gardens is a venue surrounded by lush greenery. The design of this place takes cues from L’Orangerie at the Jardins des Tuileries in Paris, and since it’s a casual all-day eatery, the menu lists simple, but well-made comfort food with pastas, steaks, and chops, as well as a range of veggie dishes, all served with great view of the area. Other facilities include a state-of-the-art gym that’s open 24/7 an open air wellness deck, a fully-equipped private event space, and concierge service.
