Kim Jones‘ fascination with urban culture has been evident throughout his career, but now that he pulls the creative strings at Dior for its men’s collections, it’s truly going leaps and bounds. Japanese artist Hajime Sorayama‘s work received a major boost during the presentation of the Dior A/W 2019 men’s collection in Tokyo last November, and to for the hotly anticipated global launch, an additional capsule collection has been created. The Dior logo has been reinterpreted, using Sorayama’s well-known sexy robot and signature dinosaur on a series of T-shirts, a sweatshirt, a sweater, a bandana and a pochette, sneakers, a card holder, and a brass necklace. In tribute to founder Christian Dior‘s love of flowers and Japan, the items are strewn with cherry blossom petals. The Dior x Hajime Sorayama capsule collection is available at select Dior boutiques and other depositories across the planet, but can also be purchased online.
Publishers Note
Just to be clear – superfuture® is a design blog and not a political commentator. No surprise there. The scope of our content has always been global and borderless, however that can often mean covering projects in countries where we will not agree with the politics or actions of those countries. In a world that’s as screwed up as ever right now, the focus of our support is to those designers, architects and other creatives who aim to make the world a more liveable one – as opposed to people that try their hardest to destroy it. So if a project hits our desk and we like it based on its design credentials, we may choose to publish regardless of its location or creators nationality. superfuture® has always been inclusive and hopes for all current wars, aggression, violence, hate and extremism to end.
