The hype surrounding Dior‘s men’s collection hasn’t been this intense since Hedi Slimane left the building in 2007, but then again, its current creative director has similar cultural weight and a vision to match to instigate a cult status within the realm of luxury goods that only a few brands can attain. We’re obviously talking designer Kim Jones whose much-publicized men’s showcase last month in Tokyo was just another example how subcultural elements are cleverly blended into Dior menswear to rejuvenate its image. The presentation of Dior‘s A/W 2019 Men’s Collection at Paris Fashion Week once again demonstrates Jones’s ability to pair the design heritage of the iconic fashion house with current style sensibilities through an in-depth knowledge of its history, sheer craft, and last but not least, the ability to connect with highly talented peers in both fashion and other creative realms. The collection is an eclectic one that not only shows sharp sartorial cuts, but also intricate draping and an infusion of artsy animal prints. For this collection, Jones also collaborated with Raymond Pettibon, an American artist best known for his works for various punk rock bands, and his paintings were used as prints and embroideries. The show was held in a purpose-built black box erected on Champ de Mars in Paris, and the models were presented on an elongated conveyor belt instead of walking on a catwalk. Shown here are eleven looks from Dior‘s A/W 2019 Men’s Collection that we particularly like. Show location: Dior, Champ de Mars (St.-Germain).
