As a pivotal part of the Pear River Delta, a booming economic zone and mega city in the making in the South of China, Shenzhen is already reaping the benefits of a steep increase of the standard of living. The obscure fishing town with just 30,000 inhabitants in the 1970s has now transformed into one of the country’s most affluent cities with a modern lifestyle infrastructure to match, and it’s one that’s beyond compare to most other regions. Needless to say, this so-called first-tier status comes with plenty of perks, especially for the city’s well-heeled. Catering to this discerning demographic is the newly opened Angle, a fashion boutique at the prestigious One Shenzhen Bay complex. Straddled along the coastline overlooking Deep Bay and, further beyond, the bright lights of Hong Kong‘s coastline, the store is nestled amidst a cluster of buildings, including several residential towers, a soaring office building and a Raffles Hotel.

The Angle store measures 300 sqm. (3,229 sq.ft.) across two floors – although it looks as if there are three levels to explore from outside – occupying two units that have been merged with the help of Various Associates, an interior design practice from Shenzhen. Upon entering the store on the ground floor, shoppers encounter a café and gallery space, captured by a palette of granite, walnut and red marble. The seating area is defined by an L-shaped table with comfy chairs on the upper level and a curved sofa clad in striking indigo blue leather below, paired accordingly with curved tables. The glass façade extends across both floors, and not only allows in floods of natural light, but also unobstructed views of the glitzy urban surrounds.

An elaborate staircase, also in granite and featuring different levels, is also used to exhibit both art and merchandise, and leads to the upper floors where Angle‘s women’s fashion can be found. Specific sections are covered by walnut paneling, playfully add visual layering, but also extends upstairs to the retail space where it surfaces as a clearly demarcated section in a pristine white space, incorporating a sales desk and a display along the way. The second floor is spacious and uncluttered, and is otherwise furnished with suspended clothing racks that line the wall. As said, Angle exclusively stocks women’s apparel, accessories, shoes, jewellery and eyewear by leading brands from home and abroad, including MM6, JH Zane, Lemaire, and Märchen.
