Hailing from Sydney, but raised in New York City, lensman Jesse Lizotte taught himself all the tricks in the book and then some, but more importantly, he developed a keen eye for what’s below the radar, tapping into subcultures and all of its colourful actors. It’s his effortless approach and communication which have allowed him to forge bonds with photographic subjects, creating an energy and authenticity that’s often captured on film. Following shows in Sydney, Melbourne, London and Los Angeles, Lizotte lands a solo exhibition on Bali that’s set up in collaboration with China Heights gallery in his hometown Sydney. Opening Sat – Aug 11 at Room 13, the gallery space of contemporary boutique hotel The Slow, the show presents ten of the lensman’s exemplary black and white photographs. The works all demonstrate Lizotte’s talent to capture a fresh perspective with a filmic quality, capturing both tension and movement.
