Ahead of Hedi Slimane‘s much-anticipated tenure at Céline and his first runway show, the luxury brand has already shifted gear in the retail department. Its newest flagship store has bowed in Miami‘s buzzing Design District, an upscale shopping area with a global significance for any luxury brand, and the premises flaunt entirely different design codes. Occupying 487 sqm. (5,242 sq.ft) set across two floors of a newly built structure, the design is a full-blown infusion of blue-green tinted Brazilian Pinta Verde marble and a play of volumes, resulting in an intriguing kind of understatement. The precious stone clads walls, ceiling, specific floor sections, displays, and even the boutique’s façade, offering a subtle yet distinct contrast to the robust concrete pillars, benches and grey carpeting. Interestingly, downstairs ceiling sees pyramid-shaped recesses that protrude upstairs from the floor in a similar shape. A concrete staircase with a brass balustrade leads to the second floor through another pyramid shape. The latter material is also used for clothing racks and elements of displays, shelving and mirrors. The new Céline store carries the brand’s full range of women’s apparel, accessories, bags and shoes, but is also likely to add Slimane’s to-be-launched menswear coming season.
