As the prime showcase in one if its most significant markets, Maison Hermès is quite a sight to behold. It’s not only the flagship store’s contemporary architecture, coveted merchandise, or rotating exhibition programme that pulls large crowds to its doorstep, but also the endless number of rather stunning window installations. The current one, entitled supa itazura pen or ‘super naughty pen’ in English, has been created by French designer and artist Julien Amouroux a.k.a. Le Gentil Garçon. Following physics and mathematics studies, Amouroux enrolled into art school, consequently resulting in an entirely different but successful career path. Hermès commissioned Amouroux to create window installations as part of its 2018 Let’s Play theme, and he references his youth when making drawings on paper, using multi coloured crayons with which he conjured up fantastical worlds. Each of Maison Hermès‘ ground floor shop window has literally become a canvas for Amouroux’s colourful drawings and a backdrop for the french luxury brand’s newest product range (on through Sep 10). Location: Maison Hermès, 5-4-1 Ginza (Ginza).
