Following the launch of a major retrospective show of his creations at the Alaïa headquarters in the Marais district in Paris, the fashion brand has shown its resilience by opening a flagship store in London, one of the planet’s most significant luxury retail arenas. The flagship store, dubbed Maison Alaïa and the very first retail space outside the french capital, occupies 6,000 sq.ft. (557 sqm.) set across three floors of an ornate historic building on the prime pitch of swanky New Bond Street. The interior design, conceived by the master himself and his close friend and 10 Corso Como founder Carla Sozzani, features a tightly curated range of furnishings and artworks by leading designers and artists, including a painting by Christoph von Weyhe, glass furniture by Naoto Fukasawa, and a light installation by Marc Newson. Maison Alaïa carries the brand’s full women’s ready-to-wear collection. limited edition pieces, shoes, bags and accessories, and just as in Paris, there’s a service for couture pieces readily available for its most discerning of customers.
