At long last, ARKET has opened its first brick and mortar store in Switzerland, picking a rather grand location in the heart of Zurich. Occupying no less than 800 sqm. (8,611 sq.ft.) on the premises of a former department store building erected in ornate Belle Époque style, the store features a contrasting austere interior design that’s an extrapolation of ARKET‘s brand aesthetic. The grey monochrome settings throughout the store, designed by the ARKET in-house design team in Stockholm, ooze an industrial feel thanks to the exposed ceiling revealing a myriad of utility pipes, but it’s also somewhat softened by a variety of furnishings in light timber, cozy seating areas, and lush potted plants. Adding to the meticulously created cohesion of the interior design is lighting which comprises rail-suspended light spots, suspended linear light fixtures, and large suspended globes in the café. And yes, given the ample retail space, an ARKET Café can be found on the ground floor, allowing shoppers, or passers-by, to indulge in coffee and pastries after a tiresome shopping spree. The new ARKET store carries the brand’s full range of men’s, women’s and kids apparel, accessories, shoes, bags, jewellery pieces and homeware.

Publishers Note
Just to be clear – superfuture® is a design blog and not a political commentator. No surprise there. The scope of our content has always been global and borderless, however that can often mean covering projects in countries where we will not agree with the politics or actions of those countries. In a world that’s as screwed up as ever right now, the focus of our support is to those designers, architects and other creatives who aim to make the world a more liveable one – as opposed to people that try their hardest to destroy it. So if a project hits our desk and we like it based on its design credentials, we may choose to publish regardless of its location or creators nationality. superfuture® has always been inclusive and hopes for all current wars, aggression, violence, hate and extremism to end.
