apart from being an absolute must-stay if you're visiting our fair city, w hotel is a cool hang for the after-work drinks set. but bar-flies must hurry; the number for 'outside' guests [ie not staying overnight] is limited to about 33 people, so if planning an after-work drinks-do, it's best to think of quality over quantity of friends. and remind them to wear their blahniks. if dining, the restaurant has an incredible menu, serving what's known as "modern australian cuisine." we like the angel-hair pasta w

clientele

the hotel staff are very discreet and refuse [of course!] to name any famous names of patrons. let's just say, however, [confidentially, of course!] that we spotted tom cruise and nicole kidman there having a drink in the luxurious bar area recently.

service

service is in line with the w hotel philosophy of being polite, friendly, efficient and 'modern,' i.e. not 'snooty,' but still a little 'posh' so you DO feel special i.e. it's casual but formal at the same time. dig?

interior

the designers have worked with the original wharf structure, keeping exposed beams etc., for added interest. toilets are amazing, with 'flat' sinks of marble; v.cool sound system throughout. contemporary re-working of 70s classic style.

this used to be the w hotel before being purchased by the taj hotel chain in 2006. unique somewhat central location on renovated wharf close to plenty of good restaurants and potts point cafés. rooms are bit squished.
