As an alluring desert enclave, Palm Springs has its fair share of luxury shopping, but the recent arrival of The Webster and its coveted multi-brand offerings is bound to shake up the local shopping scene. Indeed, Laure Hériard-Dubreuil, founder and creative director of The Webster, has set her eyes on the resort city, opening a new boutique at a 1970s revival property which once housed the design studio of esteemed interior designer Arthur Elrod (1924-1974). Measuring 4,200 sq.ft. (390 sqm.) of retail space, the villa’s lavish settings have been designed by Paris-based interior designer and longtime collaborator Stéphane Parmentier. Taking ample cues from Brazilian cities, and in particular the iconic modernist architecture of buildings in Brasília and São Paulo, this aesthetic fuses seamlessly with the sensual and free spirit that’s at the core of The Webster’s DNA and how the retailer approaches both fashion collections and spaces that present them.
Upon entering the store, shoppers come across two seating areas that are a tribute to iconic Brazilian architect Oscar Niemeyer, featuring architectural chairs upholstered in fabrics in off-white, light pink, and mustard, dark brown leather, and rich wood hues. The whimsical pink cloud ceiling is not only a firm nod to the sunsets over Copacabana Beach, but is also an ode to The Webster’s signature pink hue. Shelving units and rails that are rendered in white sand-inspired fabric, reminiscent of the buildings and beach in Rio de Janeiro, while contrasting Amazonian earth colour flooring runs across the premises. Adding up to the store’s cozy and highly personal vibe is a selection of Hériard-Dubreuil’s personal art pieces, including a number of works by her husband and artist Aaron Young. The Webster stocks a tightly curated women’s and men’s brands fro fashion’s upper echelon, including Celine, The Attico, Saint Laurent, Gucci, Gallery Dept., Casablanca and Rhude.

Just to be clear – superfuture® is a design blog and not a political commentator. No surprise there. The scope of our content has always been global and borderless, however that can often mean covering projects in countries where we will not agree with the politics or actions of those countries. In a world that’s as screwed up as ever right now, the focus of our support is to those designers, architects and other creatives who aim to make the world a more liveable one – as opposed to people that try their hardest to destroy it. So if a project hits our desk and we like it based on its design credentials, we may choose to publish regardless of its location or creators nationality. superfuture® has always been inclusive and hopes for all current wars, aggression, violence, hate and extremism to end.
