Old school is the new modern, and in New Orleans, one of the most scenic cities stateside, the adage is aptly captured by MML Hospitality‘s newest lodgings. Behold the newly opened Hotel Saint Vincent, a 75-room property in the historic Lower Garden District of town which occupies a landmark Victorian-style building from the late 19th-century which was originally erected as the Saint Vincent’s Infant Asylum. Following a meticulous renovation, retaining the majority of original architectural elements, the premises have acquired an elegant guise and a string of facilities fit for travelling hedonists. The interior design, supervised by Austin-based design practice Lambert McGuire, blends modern elements, warm colours and natural materials into the historic settings, creating a plush, and subtly layered ambiance. The guest rooms and suites not only come in various sizes, but also different styles. In fact, each one is unique in its layout, from corner Mary suites overlooking a statue of the Virgin Mary in her grotto, and classic poolside Courtyard Kings, to the intimate Sister Studios across the entire fourth floor.

The guest rooms boast luxurious materials such as deep red mohair, salmon coloured velvet curtains, red lacquer millwork, and Carrara marble alongside a funky mix of vintage art and objects. In matching style, bathrooms ooze a sensual red and pink, paired with custom psychedelic Voutsa wallpaper. Hotel Saint Vincent may totally look the part, it also knows how to entertain guests and visitors in equal measure. San Lorenzo, the property’s main restaurant, offers a cuisine inspired by coastal Italian cooking with regional New Orleans influences, served in a homey yet elegant setting. Elizabeth Street Café has the ambiance of a French Vietnamese-style café and bakery, and sits adjacent to the main hotel building, featuring limited indoor space and outdoor seating around the Grotto. Adding jolly banter at any time of the day are the hotel’s two cocktail bars, the Paradise Lounge, an airy sunny bar, and the Chapel Club, an intimate guest-only bar. Last but certainly not least, there’s the Saltillo-lined outdoor pool, brick courtyard and pool bar lined with tropical plants and water fountains, a perfect retreat where to wind down or lounge in good company,
