Since opening up shop seven years ago in Minami Aoyama, one of Tokyo‘s plushest shopping districts, Acne Studios has steadily expanded its retail presence in the country, and as of late, the Swedish fashion brand has added an outpost in downtown Nagoya. Occupying a 275 sqm. (2,960 sq.ft.) unit on the second floor of a nine-storey office building from the 1990s, it features an understated interior by Arquitectura-G, an architecture practice based in Barcelona. Similar to other Acne Studios retail spaces across the planet, the aesthetic is sleek and understated, and seamlessly adapts to the building’s concrete shell. Sheets of stainless steel have seemingly been inserted, and serve both as panelling and room dividers, and in fact, give shape to the premises. The exposed ceiling reveals a myriad of utility pipes, in addition to an intricately designed suspended lights installation created by Paris-based light artist and designer Benoît Lalloz. The austerity is counterbalanced by soft wool carpeting covering the entire floor, including two platforms which serve as display or seating. One side of the store sees floor-to-ceiling windows which allow in floods of daylight. The new Acne Studios store carries the brand’s full range of men’s and women’s apparel, accessories, shoes, bags, eyewear and jewellery pieces.
