In a country as service-minded as Japan, shopping is all about top service and convenience. As such, it isn’t surprising to find a an abundance of amenities at major railway stations, including a cluster of shops. At Kyoto Railway Station, an important hub for Shinkansen and regional railway lines, a stopover is far from tedious for shopaholics, due to the alluring presence of Kyoto Isetan. As a regional outpost of Isetan Shinjuku, the luxury department store of global fame, it’s offering the very latest in consumer goods to discerning locals, and it’s an ideal platform for brands to raise their profile. It’s exactly what French contemporary fashion brand A.P.C. has done by opening a shop-in-shop on the premises, and it’s the second retail space in the city. Situated on the fifth floor, as part of the expansive women’s department, it’s a branded shop section designed by Paris-based architect Laurent Deroo, and dedicated exclusively to A.P.C.‘s women’s collection. An elliptical-shaped cabinet with tiered shelving and seating anchors the understated space, and is paired with shelving and clothing racks crafted from timber and brass, and a simple sales counter. As said, the A.P.C. shop-in-shop carries the brand’s women’s collection only, featuring apparel and denim pieces, bags, pouches and small leather goods, in addition to home candles.

Just to be clear – superfuture® is a design blog and not a political commentator. No surprise there. The scope of our content has always been global and borderless, however that can often mean covering projects in countries where we will not agree with the politics or actions of those countries. In a world that’s as screwed up as ever right now, the focus of our support is to those designers, architects and other creatives who aim to make the world a more liveable one – as opposed to people that try their hardest to destroy it. So if a project hits our desk and we like it based on its design credentials, we may choose to publish regardless of its location or creators nationality. superfuture® has always been inclusive and hopes for all current wars, aggression, violence, hate and extremism to end.
