Only a few months ago, Aesop opened its first standalone boutique in the Spanish capital, and now, it has shifted gear, inaugurating the second retail space in Spain in city of Barcelona. Situated in the leafy, grid-patterned downtown district of Eixample, the store occupies a rectangular unit on the ground floor of an ornate five-storey residential building erected in 1910, and which borders on Passeig de Gràcia, the city’s golden mile of luxury shopping. In stark contrast, the store interior designed by local architecture practice Barozzi Veiga, is clean and understated. Although relatively narrow, the space is lofty and this is accentuated by three stainless steel beams that usher eager shoppers into the store. One side sees suspended sleek tiered shelving in matching steel laden with merchandise. Opposite, suspended storage cabinets with built-in sinks line the wall and extend all the way to the back of the store where it turns the corner in a semi-circular recessed section and morphs into cushioned seating. The new Aesop store carries the brand’s full range of face, body and hair care products, in addition to fragrances and home products.

Publishers Note
Just to be clear – superfuture® is a design blog and not a political commentator. No surprise there. The scope of our content has always been global and borderless, however that can often mean covering projects in countries where we will not agree with the politics or actions of those countries. In a world that’s as screwed up as ever right now, the focus of our support is to those designers, architects and other creatives who aim to make the world a more liveable one – as opposed to people that try their hardest to destroy it. So if a project hits our desk and we like it based on its design credentials, we may choose to publish regardless of its location or creators nationality. superfuture® has always been inclusive and hopes for all current wars, aggression, violence, hate and extremism to end.
