vienna: beirut

opening tue - jun 28 [7pm] at kunsthalle wien project space is beirut, the second installment of an exhibition series that explores the creative potential of select cities across the planet. often referred to as the 'paris of the middle east', beirut has been ravaged by decades of civil war and other armed conflicts. from an architectural point-of-view, as well as from social, economic and historical perspectives, the city has been a battlefield of divergent interests. the show focuses on filmic works by artists who deal with the issues of freedom, self-realization, and equality under the aggravated conditions of permanent conflict. participating artists include mona hatoum, akram zataari, lamia joreige, rami el-sabbagh and mahmoud hojeij. location: treitlstrasse 2 [wieden]. photo: skyline of lebanon's resilient capital
