tokyo: the art of film posters in japan

this show should appeal to true movie buffs. currently on at the national film center is the art of film posters in japan, an exhibition that showcases the graphic craftsmanship that was applied to create a movie poster. unlike other countries, film posters in japan were very often designed independently, meaning that no attribitution to a film's stars were incorporated in the design, resulting in very different aesthetics. on display are a series of posters that are emblematic for this very specific graphic art form by various japanese designers, including tadanori yokoo, makoto wada and kiyoshi awazu [on through mar 31]. location: 3-7-6 kyobashi [chuo-ku].
