ryan tatar is a san francisco-based surfer and photographer. tatar's main body of work, entitled sea-tribes, is in fact an ongoing photo essay that documents the landscapes, waves, and lifestyles around various pods of surfers. it aims to present a unique, albeit slightly nostalgic, perspective of modern surf culture, and has caught the eye of various leading publications and brands. tatar has collaborated with both indie labels like the critical slide society and rake surfboards, to a range of larger clients such as uniqlo, h&m and billabong. opening today at the café section of the ron herman store in tokyo is ryan tatar x ron herman, an exhibition that elaborates on the very essence of his work. on display is an exemplary selection of the photographer's original works from 35mm film and polaroids [on through nov 16]. location: 2-11-1 sendagaya [sendagaya].
