the majority of foreign travelers heading to tokyo arrive at narita airport, a spacious and hassle-free point of arrival, but located a tedious hour-and-a-half away from the city by express train. it opened back in 1978 to alleviate the then seriously congested haneda airport which subsequently lost most of its international connections and became a domestic airport. but lately things are on the up again for haneda. ever popular because of its convenient city-hugging location at tokyo bay, the government ban on international flights was lifted in 2007. this has not only resulted in the highly successful launch of new flights by various carriers to international destinations, such as london, kuala lumpur, los angeles, new york, but also in the opening of a brand new international terminal building [with an extension on the way] and an increasing number of interesting retail outlets. and speaking of stores: any savvy shopper knows that when trophy hunting in tokyo, you'll end up at isetan one way or another. this illustrious department store is a longtime fixture in the city's retail scene and its dazzling array of top fashion brands and collections have made it one of the planet's leading shopping destinations.
and now isetan has launched the isetan haneda store at haneda airport's terminal 1 departure lounge. measuring a spacious 850 sqm., it's divided in four themed sections that feature a matching range of merchandise and services. the store targets haneda's business traveller, and as such the merchandise predominantly caters to a male clientele. the relax section packs leisure apparel, accessories and shoe collections that ensure a stylish off-time abroad plus a cosmetics counter with exclusive brands like santa maria novella, aesop and molton brown, while the jetset corner offers smart options in fine business suits and shoes, and trophy luggage pieces. mind you, there's even a shoe shine service! the great gift section stocks a wide range of fine chocolates, cakes and cookies. in the lounge section you'll have no less than three options. there's a stylish café for drinks and bites and there's the superexclusive b bar haneda, run by french crystal house baccarat. and only if you're a media-shy celeb, you'll get to use the adjacent v.i.p. room. location: 3-3-2 haneda, terminal 1, departure lounge, second floor [ota-ku].
