tokyo: irving penn and issey miyake - visual dialogue

© the irving penn foundation / irving penn - staircase dress [1994] fashion designer issey miyake and photographer irving penn first met in 1983 when the latter was on assignment for vogue magazine and had to shoot the japanese designer's garments. astonished and impressed with the results, miyake from then on asked penn to photograph his collections. opening on fri - sep 16 at tokyo's 21_21 design sight gallery is irving penn and issey miyake - visual dialogue, an exhibition that focuses on both the individual and collaborative work of penn and miyake. next to large-scale projections of collection photographs by penn, an animated film by pascal roulin with original drawings by michael crawford, and 'issey miyake' collection posters exhibited collectively for the first time, original fine art prints made by Penn will also be showcased as well as his preliminary drawings for photographing miyake’s designs. the exhibition setting has been designed by architect shigeru ban. location: 9-7-6 akasaka [roppongi].
