anyone even remotely interested into skateboarding and inimitable tricks, is aware of keith hufnagel's stature in thr scene. in 2002, the professional cleverly branched out into retail, opening stores in san francisco and los angeles. a reshuffle followed almost a decade later, resulting in just one relocated store in west hollywood. but now business is expanding once again, and the newest huf store has just opened its doors in tokyo's boutique-infested shibuya district. the interior has been fully stripped, featuring whitewashed walls and ceiling with exposed utility pipes, and flooring of bare concrete. the undertstatement gains a subtle design edge by way of custom-made furnishings and fixtures of untreated plywood. a vintage star-spangled banner, reworked by artist cali thornhill dewitt, adorns the wall, enphasizing the brand's roots. the new huf store stocks a selection of the brand's collection, including sneakers, socks, apparel pieces, and headgear, in addition to limited edition t-shirts to commemorate the store opening. for the launch party both hufnagel and dewitt flew into town to rub shoulders with the japanese capital's eager skateboarding community. location: 1-14-1 jinnan [shibuya].
