© herman miller - the essential eames showcase arrives in tokyo

after much publicized stopovers in hong kong and jakarta, furniture manufacturer herman miller takes its essential eames showcase to tokyo where it opens to the public today. held at ozone, an center that provides information on contemporary housing and interior issues, the exhibition elaborately tracks the complete life and work of the illustrious design couple charles and ray eames. the show is a collab between eames office, an organization that's dedicated to communicating, preserving and extending the work of charles and ray eames, and herman miller, and is centered around the book an eames primer by eames demetrios, the designers' grandson. as such, the essential eames showcase corresponds to the book's chapters. upon entering the exhibition space visitors are greeted by a series of walls that tell the story of charles and ray’s life, elaborating on the humble beginnings of charles eames' life to his tenure at cranbrook academy of art as a design lecturer, and on to the many facets of their work from architecture to film, toys, products and furniture [on through jan 15]. location: shinjuku park tower, 3-7-1 nishi-shinjuku, 3rd floor [shinjuku].
