japan may no longer be asia's biggest luxury market but yesterday's hotly anticipated opening of acne's flagship store in tokyo is very much an indication of its unrivalled leading position in the region when it comes to fashion + lifestyle sophistication. it's no wonder acne chose to launch its first flagship in asia in aoyama, home to countless high profile flagship stores and a fav shopping destination of the city's savvy fashion pack. the store is a joint-venture with tomorrowland a high-end local retailer with hundreds of stores nationwide - and occupies a space that was previously occupied by the 10 corso como store. the store measures 260 sqm. [2,799 sq.ft.] spread over three floors and features an interior with swathes of sleek, polished surfaces by acne's house architect andreas fornell. it's very much a continuation of the aesthetics of the recently opened acne flagships in paris, copenhagen and new york.
but what sets it apart is playfully collaged juxtapositioning of textures and materials such as stone, wood and granite. another striking feature is the use of colour: every nook and cranny seems to have a different hue, ranging from a pale pink to yves klein's signature blue. acne's new flagship store carries the brand's full range of merchandise. the ground floor is home to women’s ready-to-wear, accessories and shoes and one floor up the women’s denim collection can be found. the men’s ready-to-wear, denim and accessories collections are showcased in the basement section. the store's opening party went into early christmas overdrive and pulled a huge crowd with many an a-lister from tokyo's fashion, music and art community, joined by a handful of happy tomorrowland and acne dignitaries from stockholm. location: 5-3-20 minami-aoyama [aoyama].
