© 1ldk - a-grade merchandise in a utilitarian retail environment
1ldk is one of the most interesting stores chains that has emerged in the japanese capital's ever-changing retail landscape in recent years. what started with a single shop in naka meguro has now expanded into a handful of differently conceptualized stores in tokyo and nagoya. the latest one to open is 1ldk/depot at gyre omotesando, a prestigious mall complex designed by architecture practice mvrdv. contrary to the swanky surroundings 1ldk/depot lives up to its name, featuring a low-key yet somewhat polished utilitarian interior for its a-grade offerings. speaking of which, the shop carries a carefully edited selection of quality goods for everyday use. ranging from apparel, accessories and cosmetics to homewares and garden tools. along with the store opening, 1ldk has staged an exhibition of products by danish design brand hay on the same floor [on through apr 28]. location: gyre omotesando, 5-10-1 jingumae, 3rd floor [harajuku].
