melbourne's fashion emporium chiodo [pron.: kee-odo] now also caters to sydney hipsters, having opened a striking new store in the city's kings cross area. located at the fancy sarahville, a two-storey heritage-listed terrace mansion built in 1892 and one of many along challis avenue, it has been designed with similar design objectives as chiodo's initial store. rather than radically change the space, the interior has been crafted by owner andrew chiodo with respect of the store's context and history. as a result, no new materials were added save for a mirrored wall at the back of the store. a charred table by designer maarten baas and an armchair by gaetano pesce - re-upholstered with army fatigued shirts - spice up the stylish interior.
chiodo in sydney carries its in-house label, designed by andrew chiodo, supplemented by a range of tightly curated brands. these include many comme des garçons lines: homme, homme plus, tricot, cdg shirt [men + women], junya watanabe, junya watanabe man, fragrances, wallets and accessories, in addition to eyewear by martin margiela and cutler + gross and shoes by officine creative. to coincide with the opening, the sydney store also carries japanese labels ma_julius and nude:masahiko maruyama, both exclusive to australia. location: 29 challis avenue [kings cross].
