the demand for luxury goods in russia is still growing steadily, but retail that specifically serves this segment is largely concentrated in just two cities. as the country's cultural capital st. petersburg obviously is a prominent city, and it features quite a number flagship stores. the retail landscape here is expanding, although at a much slower pace than moscow, which very much remains russia's undisputed hub of luxury retail. but let's go back to st. petersburg where prada has just made a grand arrival with a brand new flagship store on one of the city's swankiest shopping streets. occupying almost 400 sqm. [4,306 sq.ft.] of retail space on the ground floor of an arched, neo-classic 19th-century building. designed by italian architect roberto baciocchi, the store is split into two spacious areas.
the first presents the women's shoe, eyewear and handbag collections amidst the signature hallmarks of prada's signature store aesthetic of black + white chequered marble flooring and green fabric-clad walls. the following setting has a more intimate feel, heightened by light flowing through the louvered windows on the ceiling and reflecting on the perspex and glass fitments, and presents the brand's ready-to-wear designs for women. a separate section is reserved for men's leather goods and accessories. the store launch has been adorned with a satellite presentation of the iconoclasts, a special retail project which prada first launched in 2009. a new edition was presented last week in milan during milan fashion week in collab with fashion director edward enninful. location: bolshaya konyushennaya ultisa 13 [tsentralniy].
