although a thriving economic hub for decades, singapore has longtime lacked the retail diversity and splendour of similar hubs in the region such as hong kong and tokyo. but it looks as if lately things are shifting in the right direction, given the many and often high-profile retail developments of late. earlier this month scotts square, a huge complex consisting of two luxury residential towers and an expansive mall, opened in the heart of the city's bustling shopping district. high-end and exclusive, scotts square mall pretty much reflects these values on the retail side, featuring a well-curated mix of flagship boutiques, new-to-market fashion labels, new concept speciality services and dining selections. the store list currently includes paul & joe, hermès, poltrona frau, pierre balmain and michael kors. mall owner wheelock properties threw a champagne-showered opening party that pulled a crowd of movers and shakers from the island nation who all watched a fashion show staged by some mall tenants and a gig by singer olivia ong. location: 6 scotts road [orchard west].
