flaunting a style that's quintessentially tokyo, designer masanori morikawa's fashion label christian dada has not only gained a sizeable following on home turf, but also a growing one abroad. to accommodate this increased demand, it has embarked upon an ambitious expansion scheme, and recently ventured abroad for the very first time to open up shop in singapore. the lion city is the leading luxury hub in southeast asia, and as such an ideal stepping stone to serve the region's fashion forward consumers. the boutique is situated at 268 orchard road, a newly opened multilevel shopping mall. occupying a prominent 1,700 sq.ft. [158 sqm.] ground floor unit, christian dada enlisted tokyo-based architect fumiko takahama to create an interior design that lives up to the store's stature.
interestingly, the aesthetic draws inspiration from a trip that morikawa once undertook to naoshima, an island in the japanese archipelago that's well-known for its many contemporary art venues. upon entering the premises, a sculptural doorway crafted from perforated metal panels signals a futurist design that's extended inside. dotted across the boutique are monolithic displays, very much reminiscent of a zen rock garden, matched by furnishings of the same material. the clothes are neatly spaced along silver rails, while overhead a seemingly inserted gazebo of white beams balances out the visual drama below. the new christian dada boutique carries a selection of the brand's men's and women's collection. location: 268 orchard road, shop 01-02 [orchard east].
