with a monumental temple complex as angkor wat in the vicinity, the planet's largest hindu temple and a unesco heritage site, it's impossible to match its sheer size and unfathomable grandeur. but newly opened boutique hotel shinta mani has a few assets up its sleeve that make it equally striking, albeit on a slightly smaller scale. meaning 'good heart' in sanskrit, the hotel is all about upscale luxury that's rooted in a commitment to responsible tourism. shinta mani is the hospitality component of the shinta mani foundation, an organization which aims to enhance the lives of members of local communities through free education programs and employment coaching. a percentage of hotel shinta mani's daily room rates is donated to the foundation to fund its many activities.
shinta mani is an intimate hotel with just 39 guest rooms in no less than six different categories, and is centrally located in the old french quarter in the heart of siem reap. designed by acclaimed architect bill bensley, guest rooms have a stylish contemporary style while the property's public spaces feature a decorum with cambodian elements subtly blended in. all rooms are equipped with twin or king-sized bed and a terrazzo bathroom with rainshower. catering to the savvy traveler, they're completely wired and feature a wall-mounted lcd tv and dvd, sound-bar, ipod dock and of course complimentary wireless internet access. carefully selected artefacts and commissioned lamps and accessories complement the design. top of the bill are fourteen spacious deluxe rooms with first floor views of the swimming pool and tropical internal courtyard, and five deluxe garden rooms that offer the same increased level of luxury combined with a tranquil private garden for lounging or dining outdoors.
heightening the sense of the good life are shinta mani's additional facilities. there's kroya restaurant, serving a string of modern-style khmer dishes prepared with aromatic local herbs and spices. bensley's bar on the second floor is a stylish watering hole where to indulge in pre-dinner drinks or a nightcap or two. a second bar is conveniently located down by the pool. but perhaps the property's biggest bonus is the shinta mani spa, a luxurious retreat featuring a spa suite and three double treatment rooms. this soothing facility offers an elaborate menu of cambodian therapeutic treatments based on traditional and modern healing rituals that boost concentration and awareness while reducing stress. and believe it or not, shinta mani also caters to those with work on their mind with a 47 sqm. meeting room. obviously, it can be also be configured to host events. but let us tell you, if we check in here, it'll be for full-on relaxation! location: junction oum khun + 14 streets [old french quarter].
