shanghai: staring to the stars

although now based in paris, artist john andrew perello a.k.a. jonone [1963] first engaged in graffiti in the streets of new york city where he was inspired by the burgeoning scene of the 1980s. it was around that same time that he relocated to the french capital, and not long after his career really took off. ever since jonone has become a regular in the contemporary art scene, exhibiting his distinct graffiti artwork, marked by a style that has its origins in abstract art and a penchant for bright colours, at leading galleries across the planet. jonone currently has a new solo exhibition, entitled staring to the stars, at gallery magda danysz in shanghai. on display is a series of new canvases and works on paper, all created during an artistic residence, and inspired by his love for this bustling megalopolis [on through aug 30]. location: 188 linqing lu [yangpu].
