© dior - dior bulks up at shanghai's ifc mall according to a recent survey china is to account for a staggering 20% of the planet's luxury goods by 2015, and it's no wonder many a high-end brand is stepping up its presence in this booming market. shanghai is the epicentre of luxury consumption in the people's republic, and it's at the city's plush ifc mall where luxury brand dior reopened its revamped and expanded flagship earlier this month. measuring an area of 327 sqm. spread over two storeys, the boutique now boasts a similar elegant interior design to the brand's headquarters on avenue montaigne in paris, and this is probably best reflected in the belmonte ivory flooring that's designed in the signature cannage-quilt pattern. on the first floor shoppers find a counter with timepieces and fine jewellery, located within a sofa area. an led-lit multimedia installation by french artist yorame welcomes shoppers to the second floor where dior's collections of ready-to-wear, knits and shoes can be found. also on this floor is a lavish v.i.p. room with classic marble fireplace. the aforementioned artist actually designed the entire space and drew inspiration from christian dior’s garden in his hometown granville, using a painting with a garden motif to decorate the room. and that's not all, folks! the store expansion spawned a new dior homme boutique right next door, the second in shanghai. an open and transparent retail space, the 122 sqm. store features the sleek architectural interior style as found at other dior homme stores across the planet, with the black-and-white color scheme, bottom-lit black-lacquered display shelving and suspended stainless steel racks. chinese artist wen fang created the boutique's artsy fitting rooms. she applied her designs to the walls in the fitting area and on the stool surface, matching the black + white colour scheme and metallic texture. photos with themes pertaining to china's male culture and fashion trends over the past six decades are printed on the cement bricks, and each brick bears a distinctive pattern. two walls were built out of those bricks and erected in the fitting rooms. dior + dior homme location: 8 century avenue, shop L129 [lujiazui].
