isabel marant's sensibilities reach well beyond the realm of fashion. understanding the added value of a unique retail experience, the french designer has recently opened a handful of boutiques that aren't just places where to snap up her coveted designs, but also offer shoppers an intimate, modern, and last but not least, well-designed shopping adventure. although having embarked on a global retail expansion plan, the isabel marant brand is aloof of generic store design and has quickly become known for rather stunning shops. one of the latest to open is in apgujeong, an affluent area of seoul where it sits pretty among a high number of other flagships. the store is a collaboration with ciguë, the paris-based architecture + design practice which has created a number of other stunning store interiors for the brand. it occupies 2,000 sq.ft. [186 sqm.], spread over two floors of a modern concrete structure that was previously occupied by a restaurant. redesigning the space, ciguë took cues from the city's savvy, power-dressing denizens. the concrete shell was left largely intact but the austerity has been toned down by an expansive ceiling covered with wooden strips in varying hues. complementing the beautiful linear qualities of the building, furnishings consist of chunky wooden displays while frail metal clothes racks are placed along the walls. lush tropical plants further soften the look. the shop windows are currently adorned by an organically-shaped installation made of wood and aluminum snail plates - mais, bien sûr! - by artist arnold goron, a longtime collaborator of the fashion brand. the new isabel marant store carries the brand's main collection and étoile diffusion line. location: 99-14 cheongdam-dong, gangnam-gu [apgujeong].
