© aesop - an eagerly awaited arrival on the u.s. west coast
after opening a number of stores in new york city and boston, aesop shifts its focus to the u.s. west coast. the australian cosmetics brand opens up shop in pacific heights, an upscale neighbourhood in san francisco and consequently home to plenty of plush boutiques and high-end brands. as usual, aesop has pulled out all the stops to come up with a stunning store design and for this store they've once again teamed up with nadaaa, an architecture practice based in boston. although a fairly narrow and rectangular space, the design maximizes its use while adding the design splendour that aesop shoppers have come to expect over the years.
while one side of the store is almost completely covered from floor-to-ceiling with a myriad of protruding odd-sized little cabinets, made from reclaimed wooden boxes and made-to-measure to fit the product range, the opposite wall - and the counter attached to it - balances out the visual drama and is covered in rustic cork. a second movable counter - covered in the same material - is positioned in the back section. and in case you wondered: nadaaa's design references pre-20th century apothecaries that showcased an abundance of bottles and tubes. aesop's first store on the u.s. west coast carries the brand's full range of skin, body and hair care products. location: 2450 fillmore street [pacific heights]
