fostering urban culture lifestyle through tightly edited offerings, the gorilli store has been nothing less than a wayfarer in rotterdam's retail scene. having garnered a sizeable following well beyond the city limits, gorilli closed down its original store late last year, only to resurface at a very prominent downtown location in a tweaked retail format. anticipating eroding borders within the global lifestyle segment and the dramatically increased mobility of today's shoppers, gorilli accommodates its clients with a new shopping environment and matching services. the store formula has been given a reboot as well, focusing solely on a concise set of forward brands that continuously raise the bar. the new shop interior is crafted entirely from hardboard panels and matched with an existing tiled floor, and allows the merchandise to pop.
an entire wall features sneakers presented on shelving while opposite apparel and other lifestyle items are presented in rows of displays in the same material. a line of flourescent tube lighting meanders across the premises and loosely references the previous store location. the gorilli's brand list is an interesting mix of high-end labels and street-cred merchandise, and there'll be a wider choice in footwear. currently on the brand list are coveted names such as comme des garçons, clae, maison margiela, gram and moschino. lacking the traditional sales counter, payments are processed via an ipad and receipts are forwarded by e-mail. another novelty is storage of your purchase, allowing you to roam freely across town for some more splurging, and a forwarding service. location: korte lijnbaan 20 [centrum].
