this little coffee joint opened during men's fashion week a little while ago. we're talking café kitsuné, the eponymous fashion and music brand's new hospitality venture in paris. founders masaya kuroki and gildas loaëc first tested the water when launching their tokyo flagship store almost exactly a year ago and wanted to extend it to their homebase. café kitsuné occupies a compact unit at the shopping arcade of the monumental palais royal, and it previously served as a pop-up store when the kitsuné flagship around the corner was under wraps for renovation. mimicking a traditional italian caffetteria, it's features an elongated wooden bar with a marble counter top, a row of mirrors on the opposite wall that visually enlarge the space, and it's stand-only. the menu is concise and lists roasted coffee, tea, various juices and gluten-free pastries and cakes from specialized grocery shop and restaurant noglu, in addition to a selection of kitsuné accessories and cd's. location: 30 rue de montpensier, entrance via the palais royal courtyard [étienne marcel].
