when it comes to contemporary urban elegance, designer alexandre mattiussi wins the trophy hands down. since founding his ami menswear brand in 2011, the paris-based designer has been masterfully tweaked classic silhouettes into modern looks that ooze effortless style, and his new a/w 2016 collection is no exception. recently presented at men's fashion week, the ami aesthetic is further elaborated, featuring a new array of wearable, highly coveted pieces. breaking away from last season's floral frivolity, garments have a predominant demure signature, but still retain plenty of sex appeal. coats and jackets once again have oversized proportions, and are paired with baggy pants.
standing out were a number of statement pieces that clearly demonstrate mattiussi's quirk and lighthearted approach to men's fashion: a classic long coat and pullovers in an immaculate powder blue shade, and another coat and matching pants in shiny sequins. shown here are eight looks from mattiussi's recent catwalk presentation that we particularly like. ami's a/w 2016 collection will be available at the brand's own boutiques in paris and tokyo, but also at select depositories across the planet, including opening ceremony [los angeles], jeffrey [new york], the pelican studio [amsterdam], le 66 [beirut] and 10 corso como [seoul].
