punkt. is a design-led consumer technology company based in switzerland. this year's edition of london design festival was picked to present its new mp 01 cell phone designed by jasper morrison at curated space at somerset house. the device stands out because of a clean, simple design that's paired with just the core of cell phone functions: calling and texting. the refreshingly simplified design is captured by long-lasting materials, including a high-specification camera paint finish and a screen made from gorilla glass, a specialised thin, light and damage-resistant glass. and it doesn't just look good, but also has a soft touch texture and a moulded back plate to make it comfortable to hold and allow it to sit easily on any surface. in short, the aim of punkt. was to come up with a no-frills, albeit well-designed, alternative to multifunctional devices, and they managed to pull it off. the mp 01 is initially launched in black, with two additional colourways to follow next year. the cell phone will drop at selected retailers this month, including colette [paris], la rinascente [milan] and gurus [hong kong], but will also be available online from october.
