celebrating the upcoming 140th anniversary of iconic department store liberty, denim brand nudie jeans have launched past just got present, an exclusive collab that's inspired by an original liberty art fabrics paisley print design. it's a limited edition capsule of jeans which innovatively explores the renowned classic liberty print by applying it onto three separate jean canvases: an organic turkish dry denim, an organic japanese washed selvage denim, and a british sourced cow-leather. mind you, the origin of the print dates back to 1971 when it was designed at liberty’s merton printworks, although adding some historical intrigue to the project, the original designer remains unknown.
the gap between past and present is suitably anatomized between fabrication, fit and process. nudie jeans’ timeless denim silhouettes lean dean and grim tim, and a new retro-esque addition funky ben, are married with technical laser printing, innovatively applying the design directly onto the fabric. the collab is the first celebration of the liberty art fabrics prints being fully illuminated on denim, and came about creative director maria erixon was introduced to the paisley print during a personal visit to the liberty archive earlier this year. the lean dean liberty dry is a straight-tapered style produced in an organic 12.7 oz. turkish comfort stretch dry denim.
denimheads into faded hues, are likely to gravitate towards the grim tim liberty used selvage, a straight-slim washed option in an organic 13.5 oz. japanese selvage denim. both are unisex styles, and each is presented in a luxurious hand-made box with the liberty print on indigo blue background. taking the collab to an unprecedented level for the gothenburg-based denim brand is the funky ben liberty leather, a straight boot cut cow-leather style produced in a total of only three pieces, which will be available solely in-store at liberty's flagship store in london. the past just got present collab is exclusively at liberty, but can also be ordered online.
