the 60 thomson is no more...long live the new sixty soho! the rebranded and entirely renovated luxury boutique hotel has set soho on fire with a rather stunning transformation that blends contemporary elegance with the neighbourhood's distinct codes of urban chic and vintage elements. the design is a collab effort of fraternal hotel entrepreneurs lawrence, michael and jason pomeranc and london-based design practice tara bernerd & partners. the meticulously created design is immediately evident upon entering the premises. emanating the welcoming look of a private downtown new york pied-à-terre, custom-made iron fencing frames the landscaped entryway with café-style seating.
worlds away from the usual hotel lobby set-up, this is a very versatile place where to relax, mingle or meet up for business, and the aesthetic is designed to effortlessly accommodate all those purposes with a balanced myriad of colours, textures and warm lighting. heightening the sophisticated vibe is a selection of mid-century and contemporary furnishings and a series of art pieces created and curated by artist harland miller. this welcoming residential aesthetic extends to all of sixty soho's 97 guestrooms and suites, and each comes with planked timber floors combined with caramel leather furnishings and blue mohair accents.
dark timber slatted blinds, a bespoke bar cabinet and a desk in petrol blue lacquer with tan leather inserts, contribute to the chic bedroom interiors. adding a highly personal edge are original artworks by the aforementioned british artist. the sixty soho easily accommodates guests who love living large with its lavishly appointed and superspacious sixty suites. but top of the range undoubtedly is the duplex sixty loft. set over two floors, it's the ultimate in urban luxury and it comes with an expansive roof deck that offers sweeping views of manhattan's iconic skyline. adding up to the buzz about this place are the a-grade facilities.
the swish but cosy gordon bar with its lengthy list of signature cocktails made by a very able bar team, is a destination in its own right for guests and the neighbourhood's fun-loving denizens alike. and that's not all, folks! opening coming spring on the premises is sessanta, a casual gourmet restaurant serving an array of coastal italian dishes. the venue is a collab with well-known restaurateur john mcdonald and will boast a fitting setting designed by martin brudnizki design studio. and last but not least, there's above sixty soho, a secluded rooftop terrace, and open only toonly to hotel guests, members, and private parties. location: 60 thompson street [soho].
