launched two decades ago in seattle by the owners of ace hotels, rudy's barbershop has grown into a rather directional men's grooming chain that now operates a string of shops on the u.s. west coast and since last summer also right next door to new york's ace hotel. and now a second outlet has opened in the buzzing area of williamsburg, located in a 19th-century bank building. called rudy's outpost it offers the usual sharp haircuts and grooming services, but here the retail formula is paired with men's fashion and stumptown coffee parlour. the store interior was designed in partnership with wrk design. the space features all of rudy barbershop's signature design elements. there are found and vintage pieces that make the overall shopping experience unique to the neighbourhood and compliment the space.
the retail team curated the assortment, with a list of new and old retail partners, selecting a cool variety of brands and goods that'll certainly appeal to the savviest of shoppers, including vanishing elephant, (malin+goetz), civilianaire, oliberté and cast of vices. among the dozens of retailers featured in rudy’s outpost is urban outfitters which, quite generously, will donate 100% of the profits from its merchandise sold here to waves for water’s hurricane sandy relief initiative. luckily for all brooklynites, next month rudy's outpost will morph into a permanent rudy's barbershop location, albeit with a slightly tweaked retail formula. location: 33 grand street [williamsburg south].
