pierre hardy always had a soft spot for new york and with today's opening of his first flagship outside la douce france, it manifests in 3d. the shoe designer chose the west village because of the area's intimate yet chic and bubbly vibe. the store is housed in a spacious 1,400 sq.ft. historical carriage house and its striking interior was crafted in collab with new york practice mr architecture + decor. an extrapolation of sorts from the aesthetics of the pierre hardy stores in paris, the box within a box design principle was applied here. while the historic façade was retained, a contrasting contemporary statement was added. the result is an edgy juxtaposition of brick walls and stucco, offset by panels of glass-smoked mirrors. the space features three distinct sections. in front is the patio, an area that interacts with the street and its bustle. the second section boasts bulky steel i-beams and in this industrial chic splendour, on a polished concrete installation, the brand's coveted shoe collection is displayed. the final section, with leather flooring and structured by two screens smoked glass, allows shoppers to sit back and relax. mind you, especially for the opening of this store pierre hardy designed a rather spectacular women's trophy sandal, inspired by the mirror effect of manhattan's many skyscrapers, and only available at the brand's stores in new york and paris. new york store location: 30 jane street [west village].
