the tribeca film festival was first launched in 2001 by film producer jane rosenthal, real estate mogul craig hatkoff and star actor robert de niro, to support growth and culture in manhattan following the september 11 terrorist attacks. now ten years on, it has evolved into one of the most prominent film festivals on the planet. this year's 10th anniversary edition kicks off on wed - apr 20 at various venues across tribeca and chelsea, and next to a slew of highly interesting film screenings [mind you, there's even a drive-in!], the event launches an expanded tribeca talks program with a special director series in which audiences are invited to join entertainment industry icons from brian williams to alec baldwin and martin scorsese as they moderate discussions with noted industry figures. click here to view the festival's full screening + events program.
