they're popping up in cities across the planet at an accelerated pace, and the very latest has landed in the middle of soho. we're talking mm6, the women's diffusion line by maison martin margiela and its expanding network of dedicated boutiques. following the label's retail debut in the west village two years ago, this is the second store in new york city. housed in an early 20th-century building, the store occupies an elongated space of 1,400 sq.ft. [112 sqm.] and features a quirky minimalist design. walls are dipped in a soft grey hue and clad in an expansive grid of white tiles which also extends across the entire ceiling, drawing paths and playing with repetitions on the floor.
placed against curved, wooden partitions, these paths host the interior lighting and form display tools for the store’s offerings. light parquet flooring is paired with trompe l’œil white concrete carpet. led poles linked with plastic electric cables not only provide lighting, but also add up to the intentional 'under construction' retail aesthetic. wire volumes erupt from the ground at specific places, emulating the tile grid while also accommodating the bag, shoe and accessories collections. the new mm6 boutique carries the line's full range of products. location: 91 grand street [soho].
