new york: jim henson's fantastic world

we're mildly guessing that half the planet grew up with his iconic characters, and that some of you still have related merchandise stashed in the attic. we're talking genius puppeteer jim henson, best known as the creator of the muppets. currently on at the museum of the moving image is jim henson's fantastic world, an exhibition that celebrates the man and his extensive work. the show is quite elaborate, featuring over 120 artifacts, including drawings, storyboards, and props that illustrate henson’s boundless creativity and accomplishments. fifteen iconic puppets, including kermit, miss piggy, bert + ernie and rowlf are on view, along with photographs of the puppet master and his collaborators at work and excerpts from his early projects and experimental films [on through jan 16 of next year]. location: 36-01 35th avenue [queens]. photo: the stellar muppet show cast
