new york: gray

you've got places to go! the late and great jean-michel basquiat may be best known as a painter but the man had more things up his sleeve, and loved to play music. in 1979 he formed noise-rock band gray with performance artist michael holman. the latter has revived the band with orginal member nicholas taylor to play two gigs, today [7pm + 9pm] at the new museum. mind you, these performances are part of the museum's get weird series and mark the band's first public concerts in nearly two decades. location: 235 bowery [nolita]. photo: jean-michel basquiat performing with gray in 1979.
