futura's first solo exhibition of new works in over a decade opened yesterday, and as you can imagine it was a hotly anticipated event, attended by a lenghty list of who's who of new york city's creative elite. presented by savvy art entrepreneur andy valmordbida and curated by nemo librizzi, the future-shock show [indeed, what's in a name?] features a series of large-scale wooden boards and canvases with colourful and dynamic abstract compositions in acrylic and spray paint. futura completely avoids depicting literal objects and instead captures the viewer's gaze through a subtle repetition of specific images throughout his latest work, which simultaneously also creates a visual unity of sorts among them. the exhibition's set-up is as such that clever lighting further enhances the visual drama of futura's works [on through oct 1]. the city's creative community came out in full force to the exhibition opening and the after party at dream downtown's electric room. exhibition location: 560 washington street [soho].
