this place has been open for a little while but has such a stylish yet playful old world flair, we thought we'd mention it anyaway. we're talking felice 15, a wine bar + restaurant and part of an upswing of hospitality openings that has seen new york city's financial district buzzing in a different way. after opening two upper east side locations, this is the third branch of restaurateur gherardo guarducci and wine buyer jacopo giustiniani. felice 15 is matchingly located on the premises of gild hall, opened in 2008 and by far the coolest hotel in this part of town. designer robert mckinley has crafted an interior that features the aesthetics often attributed to an old school gentlemen's club, but with contemporary touches and rustic elements - yes, we mean those huge bottles that pseudo-precariously dangle from the ceiling - playfully blended in. the ground floor features a restaurant seating 50 guests while one floor up the fancy la soffita lounge warps you back in time with a tad less formal yet very retro-chic setting with beautiful black + white photographs of rome in the 1960s that adorn the walls. as it's located in the financial district, felice 15 serves breakfast, lunch [ it even offers a 45-minute fixed price lunch for the busy white-collar crowd] and dinner. proudly italian, the dinner menu lists many of chef's simone partisotto's signature dishes, from grilled branzino and spinach + ricotta ravioli, to pasta vongole and panfried chicken. obviously, there's a wine list to match all the delicacies. sourced from various regions in italy, it also includes eco-friendly wines. location: 15 gold street [financial district].
